I remember when my friend Amy did a half marathon 5 years ago I thought she was insane...impressive, but insane. I never thought I would do a half marathon! NEVER! I started running again in January 2010. I was running 4 to 5 times a week and loving it. It became very therapeutic for me. This past year there has been some ups and downs. And in the down times running has helped me to sort things out.

So going into training for this half marathon was more than just a physical challenge for me, it became a symbol for me conquering some of my other challenges of the past few years. It was a symbol of not giving up when things get hard. When I crossed the finish line all those emotions came flooding through me and I started to cry. Recommendation: Don't cry when you are out of breath. As I was crying I couldn't breath, so I sounded like I was gasping for air as I crossed the finish line.
I had to play my theme song at the end of the race. It says:
Happiness, hit her like a train on a track
Coming towards her, stuck still no turning back
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
The horses are coming so you better run
Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father
Run for your children for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your love and your longing behind you
Can't carry it with you if you want to survive
("Dog Days are Over", Florence and the Machine)
